The Unclaimed Money Act 2008 (the new Act) received Royal Assent on 26 August 2008 and has replaced the Unclaimed Moneys Act 1962 (the old Act) from 1 January 2009.
This means that a business will no longer be required to publish details of unclaimed money in the Victoria Government Gazette.
Instead, the Registrar of Unclaimed Money (the Commissioner of State Revenue) will make this information publicly available on the State Revenue Office website. The Registrar will also be able to make details of unclaimed money available over the phone on 13 21 61 in business hours.
For further information on theses changes or to make a claim please contact the State Revenue Office or visit www.sro.vic.gov.au
