Help Page for The Victoria Government Gazette website

The most common problems with the Gazette Web Pages, and their usual solutions:

Problem : You've gone to the recent issues page, but it doesn't show the most recent gazettes.
Reason : Your computer is using an old version of the page from a cache on either your computer, or on your ISP's computer.

If you are using Microsoft Edge, you need to go back to the recent issues page and “refresh” the page. In some situations, you may need to hold down “Ctrl” and “Shift” while clicking the “Refresh” button.

For other browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc), find the appropriate menu item to reload/refresh the page.

Problem :

You click on a gazette you're interested in and the window goes blank and nothing seems to happen.

Reason : Usually this is caused by your browser trying to open the file in an Acrobat plug-in rather than download it. As some Gazette files are reasonably large (up to 1 Mb), this can take a long time, especially on a slow connection.

You need to download the file, then open it locally. Right-click on the Gazette icon, and select “save target as” or “save file as” from the pop-up menu. Once you have saved the file, you should be able to open it using Acrobat Reader.

Problem :

You’ve downloaded the edition of the Gazette you are interested in and tried to open it up, only to find a file full of digital “trash” or similar.

Reason: It’s not the file that’s faulty, or your computer, it’s just that your computer is trying to open the file in the wrong format. The Gazette files are published in PDF format, which can only be properly opened in the programs Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Acrobat Exchange.
Solution: Adobe Acrobat Reader is a freely available program from Adobe, all you have to do is click Adobe Acrobat Reader link on the links page. This will take you to the Adobe site and you can follow the instructions to download and install the program.
